What do two nurses, an acupuncturist, a human resources professional, and a marketing assistant have in common?
They have all held the title of Neighbor Ride Volunteer Coordinator.
Laurie Bokulic, a former pediatric nurse, was Neighbor Ride's first Volunteer Coordinator. Coming to us in 2005 through Volunteer Maryland, an AmericCorps program of the Governor's Office, Laurie established the foundation of our volunteer program - developing job descriptions, formalizing policies and procedures, and firmly validating the need for a permanent Volunteer Coordinator position.
Jessica Sleight, now an acupuncturist in her home state of Washington, first joined Neighbor Ride's team as our Thursday Ride Coordinator. In 2006, she took over the role of Volunteer Coordinator and was instrumental in training and managing our rapidly expanding team of volunteers.
In 2007, Rosemary Noble, a retired public health nurse and active Neighbor Ride volunteer driver, took over the reigns as Volunteer Coordinator. In addition to managing a still growing number of volunteers, Rosemary helped facilitate Neighbor Ride's transition from a paper and pencil operation to a more efficient (and environmentally friendly) one.
Three years later, with requests for rides sharply increasing, it was time to expand our Volunteer Coordinator team. Patrice Cerwonka, a former human resources professional, joined Rosemary - with the two working overlapping part-time hours in order to provide full-time support for our volunteers. Together, they conducted a thorough review and update of our policies and procedures, further streamlining our operations and making it possible for us to reliably accommodate sharp spikes in the demand for our service.
With Rosemary's retirement in 2015, it was time for another Neighbor Ride volunteer to step into the position of part-time Volunteer Coordinator. Enter Holly Waddell, previously a marketing assistant with Gordon Feinblatt LLC. Holly and Patrice have improved upon our volunteer training and communication programs and played an essential part in the development and roll-out of our fully Ride Match database.
Thank you to Laurie, Jessica, Rosemary, Patrice, and Holly for being a part of the Neighbor Ride story!
