PORTAL NEWS

  • The zip code for the client and for the destination are now showing in the pending ride screen on the driver portal. This will hopefully make it easier for you to find a ride that is close to you.
  • Ride Confirmations will print on one page if you reduce the scaling to 72%.
  • Welcome back to our teachers and school personnel. Thank you for your hard work this year. Please go in and update your summer schedules and availabilities.
  • It’s vacation season! If you are away, please put your dates in the portal so we don’t contact you on vacation. Click on Schedule, enter your dates, and click Add Row button.

Haven’t had time to familiarize yourself with the new portal?  We would love to have you come by the office and get a quick review.  Andrew will be available on Tuesday, July 9th at 11:00 or Thursday, July 25th at 2:30pm.  Feel free to bring your laptop or tablet but its not required. Please RSVP at volunteer@neighborride.org.

ENJOY THIS STORY & SHARE YOUR OWN!

As a part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration, we are collecting memorable stories, like the one below, from our volunteers and passengers. We will share the collection of stories with the community – bringing the warmth and impact of Neighbor Ride’s 20 years of service to life for all who read them.

Thelma & Louise (aka Viola & Theresa)

I had the opportunity to drive Viola Hughes to her dentist in Hampden in downtown Baltimore. She’s been going there for 60+ years! We had time for a lovely conversation and we spoke about our families. She mentioned that at 89 (she turns 90 next week!!) she loves to mess around with her daughters who always think about her living alone at home and wonder what “trouble” she is getting into. She still drives everywhere locally and only uses Neighbor Ride for appointments that require major highways. She also talked a lot about her dear friend and neighbor – Theresa (92 years old) – who also lives alone across the street and they “visit frequently and keep a close eye on each other.”

When Viola saw my car she fell in love with it and said it was her dream car. We kept talking and came up with the idea to take a picture of her and Theresa in the car with the convertible top down. Viola would tell her daughters that she decided to buy the car of her dreams and that she and Theresa would be going on a “Thelma & Louise” road trip but promised to get home safely. When I brought Viola back from the dentist she introduced me to Theresa and we told her the plan – she was a good sport (after she finished paying bills and got “properly dressed” for the day). Below is the infamous pic.

I’ve driven Viola again and heard that the pic was a total hit among the family, including the daughters, and she shows it to a lot of people and recounts the story.

We would LOVE to share YOUR favorite stories too. They can be ones that touched your heart or made you laugh. Just email them to Colleen at community@neighborride.org.
